The Return of the South Holland Business Awards 2017.

17th April 2017

Local businesses can now start looking forward to one of the Chambers biggest events of the year. The South Holland Business Awards are back with a bang and are taking place this year on the 23 November at Springfields Conference & Events Centre in Spalding.

The awards which are now in its 5th year running are set to be even bigger than last years which saw over 200 guests in attendance.

Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce caught up with all four of the 2016 apprentice winners to see what winning meant for them, if they would do it all again and what they thought about going to their first award ceremony in Spalding.

Kirsty Buffham, Energy Broker Administrator from Fairnet Commercial Services said:

“Since winning this award, I have taken on more responsibilities within Fairnet Commercial Services, and more clients are willing to pass queries through to me because I am a more recognized member of the team.

“It clearly shows starting as an apprentice can get you somewhere as I have been working for Fairnet Commercial Services for over two years now”.

“Representing Fairnet Commercial Services at the Business Awards was an honor as it is a great business to work for”.

The awards are open to both members and non-members of Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce. All guests will be treated to a three course meal and drinks reception, which will be followed by live entertainment, guest speakers and of course the award ceremony itself.

Speaking about the atmosphere and entertainment on the night, Jacques Ripley from Maples Solicitors, another apprentice winner said:

“The evening was organised and presented brilliantly with the venue looking outstanding.

“The singing Waiting Staff were an excellent touch to the evening and the guest speakers gave very interesting talks.

“It was very rewarding for me personally to win this award as it gave me a sense of achievement and it’s all thanks to Maples. It is an absolute pleasure to be a part of the business community in such a wonderful, thriving town.

“Winning this award has given me more motivation to develop my skills and be more confident with the responsibilities I am given by my employers. As a result of being successful with the Apprentice of the Year award, I feel my maturity has also grown within the workplace.

“Furthermore, it was nice to see the hard work I put into the apprenticeship course paid off, and celebrating it with Maples was an added bonus”.

Nicole Sleaford from Infotel Solutions who also won the apprentice award gave her thoughts on winning saying:

“I was really excited to have been given the opportunity to kick-start my marketing career via an apprenticeship working with Infotel Solutions. To have had my work recognised with the award was a really proud moment and a great achievement.

“Winning completely reinforced the benefits of an apprenticeship.

“Infotel Solutions has always been really supportive and winning the award definitely gave me an extra boost of confidence and motivation.

“It has also inspired me to keep on learning while I’m working because I see the benefits of increasing my skills and knowledge”.

The final apprentice winner, Lisa Wright who is now a Clerical Assistant at the National Centre for Food Manufacturing College of Science also spoke to the Chamber about her increased confidence since winning the award saying:

“Winning the award meant a lot to me as it was my colleagues who nominated me, and knowing they believed I deserved to be nominated was a huge boost to my self-confidence.

“Winning the award was very flattering and it helped me to appreciate what I had achieved having worked at the University for just over a year at that time”.

Speaking about awards ceremony, Lisa said:

“I had never been at an event like the awards before so I had no idea what to expect, but it was a really fun and relaxed evening which myself and my colleagues all enjoyed.

“If there is an opportunity in the future for me to put a colleague forward for a similar award, I will gladly do so - knowing how much it meant to me and with the hope that I can do the same for someone else”.

With a sell-out event last year, the Chamber are gearing up for another huge ceremony which recognises the spirit of the business community in Spalding.
